Savannah, Georgia is a historic city full of gorgeous architecture, lush gardens, and delicious restaurants. It’s a friendly, walkable place with plenty to see and do, even if you can only make a quick stop. We were on our way to Florida to visit family for Christmas and stopped in Savannah just for the night. Here are some things to check out if you only have a limited amount of time to explore.
Sweet Potatoes Kitchen
We stopped at Sweet Potatoes Kitchen and enjoyed a late lunch in this colorful cafe. My country fried chicken with lemony greens and garlic mashed potatoes re-energized me after many hours spent on the road.
Old Town Trolley Tour
After hours spent in the car, we didn’t have the time or energy for more driving around so Old Town Trolley‘s tour was a relaxing alternative. The little trolley-style bus wound around the lovely squares and neighborhoods of Savannah, giving us a great overview of the city.
Your Pie
Your Pie is a wood fired pizza joint that began in Athens, Georgia and has expanded its warm, fast-casual vibe to Savannah (and elsewhere), We enjoyed a laid back and well-priced dinner here with a range of fresh toppings, including vegan options. The staff were super-friendly, and recommended we talk a walk to enjoy the city and the next item on this list…
Leopold’s Ice Cream
Leopold’s Ice Cream has been making from-scratch ice cream in Savannah since 1919 and any long lines you encounter are well-deserved. They offer a range of flavors, some with local ingredients and also have a vegan vanilla. Bonus if you eat inside–the shop doubles as a repository for films shot in Savannah–a double treat for film buffs.
River Street & Factors Walk
Savannah is a river-front town and its river-front area has a number of local restaurants, shops, and attractions for you to check out. Due to our time constraints, we just did a quick drive through.
The Coffee Fox
The Coffee Fox was recommended to me by a childhood friend born in Savannah. It’s the kind of indie, local coffee place that immediately makes you feel at home, no matter what zip code your mail goes to. My friend recommended their horchata latte but once I had a look at their menu, I chose their Mexican mocha: “Made with Adam Turoni’s exclusive blend of dark chocolate, habanero and cinnamon combined with double shot of espresso and steamed whole milk.” Que rico!
Forsyth Park
Forsyth Park is a huge city park dominated by a beautiful fountain. Our Old Town Trolley guide told us the fountain was purchased from the Sears catalog and modeled off one in Paris. It’s a beautiful spot for a stroll among the live oaks.
Bonus on your way out of Savannah: Fort Pulaski National Monument
Fort Pulaski is a well-preserved 19th century fort–visit to marvel at its beautiful brickwork and original doors and explore its tunnels.
The whole family enjoyed Savannah so much we were reluctant to leave and plan on coming back again for a dedicated visit to explore the city more!

We’ll Miss Christine, you and the family are right down my alley. As you know my mother born and raised in Savannah Georgia. She is a true Georgia Peach. The pictures bring back so many memories I can’t tell you how many times I have been to Savannah Georgia. The ice cream shop is absolutely by far the best ice cream I’ve ever had. So glad you could share with us this incredible City. So glad you enjoyed your stay it is so worth wild going back to visit over and over.
